Mechanical Stream – B1.1

We are approved by Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India for this course. Course is conducted as per syllabus and schedule provided by the DGCA. This course meets requirements of International Civil Aviation Organisation and European Aviation Safety Agency for working in foreign Airlines.

Mechanical Stream B1.1 – 60 Seats

  • Heavy Aircraft (HA)
  • Light Aircraft (LA)
  • Piston Engine (PE)
  • Jet Engine (JE)

Mechanical stream is the discipline that applies engineering, physics, and materials science principles to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.

Mechanical aircraft maintenance engineers inspect, maintain and repair the mechanical components of an aircraft. They work on all parts of the aircraft, except instruments and radio systems. They may focus on a specific section of the aircraft, or on one particular maintenance process. They conduct pre-flight checks of aircraft systems to detect and diagnose defective equipment in order to prevent malfunction. When changes are made, they put the aircraft through a series of tests to ensure it is functioning properly and in safe condition for flights.

Mechanical aircraft maintenance engineers work in a range of environments such as indoors in workshops or the hangar, outdoors on the airfield, or on the flight line where aircraft await departure. Working conditions in the hangar are well ventilated and strict safety regulations ensure that risks are minimized.

Mechanical aircraft maintenance engineers can work long hours, do shift work, work on weekends and may be on call.

Aircraft maintenance engineers (Mechanical stream) inspect and work on engines and landing gear, and accessories such as brakes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic devices, fuel control pumps, valves and air conditioning systems. Hoists are used to remove engines, which can then be dismantled and tested to check for corrosion. In some cases components may be X-rayed or checked using magnetic inspection equipment to look for unnoticeable cracks.

To become an aircraft maintenance engineer specializing in mechanics, you need to complete an apprenticeship. The aircraft maintenance engineer (mechanical) apprenticeship usually takes 48 months to complete and is available as a school-based apprenticeship.

An aircraft maintenance engineer can only work on aircraft under the supervision of a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME).

The Mechanical stream field requires an understanding of core areas including mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. In addition to these core principles, mechanical engineers use tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of machinery.

 Career in Mechanical Stream

Recent Government reports suggest that nearly 72,900 jobs for technicians and AMEs will be created in India across Airlines and MRO sector by 2035. All the existing AME schools operating at full capacity cannot meet this demand. There is need to equip the students with skills that make them dynamic AMEs.

An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer draws a decent monthly salary. In the present Indian market an Airbus 320 or Boeing 737-900 rated AME easily gets about Rs. 3.00 Lakh per month whereas the total training cost is only around 8 lakh. An AME is paid even higher in international market depending upon his licence qualifications, proficiency in required skills, his/her job profile and work experience. AME are the highest paid engineers. And command a salary just next to that of captain of the aircraft.
